Join us at the intersection of past, present and future – for us and our planet – featuring a world premiere wildfire oratorio created in partnership with Oregon Repertory Singers Youth Choir and Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts.
The creative process of Eras began in April 2025 when Third Angle and the students of the ORS Youth Choir visited Following Fire, an exhibit by photographer David Paul Bayles and ecologist Frederick J. Swans. Guided by Bayles and Swans, the students unpacked the stark images of charred forests, and the vibrant signs of regrowth. Then, guided by composer Kirsten Volness, the students sprawled out on the glossy exhibit floor and wrote poetry reflecting on wildfire. This poetry served as the source text for composers Iman Habibi, Muchael-Thomas Foumai and Kirsten Volness who created a new oratorio for youth choir and small ensemble which serves as the centerpiece of the program.
