Blurring the line between human and technology, Guest Creative Director Badie Khaleghian performs a duet with a Steinway Spiro player-piano trained to respond to his own realtime neural behavior. Over a six month period Khaleghian will use an EEG headset to record his brain’s electrical activity while he improvises at the piano, mapping relationships between musical choices and neural activity. He will then use this dataset to train a model that actively processes his live EEG data and anticipates a musically coherent accompaniment that is performed on the Spiro.
