A live duet between a performer and their own brain: Guest Creative Director Badie Khaleghian performs alongside a Steinway Spiro player-piano that creates music based on his neural behavior. To prepare for the performance over a six month period Khaleghian will use an EEG headset to record his brain’s electrical activity while he improvises at the piano, mapping relationships between musical choices and neural activity. He will then use this dataset to train a model that actively processes his live EEG data and anticipates a musically coherent accompaniment that is performed live on the Steinway Spiro.
