Chris Kim

Double Bass

Chris is a double bassist and arts administrator based in Portland, Oregon. A native of Colorado andraised in El Paso, Texas, he earned his Bachelor of Music from the University of North Texas in 2010 and his Master of Music from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in 2013, where he studied with distinguished pedagogues Jeff Bradetich and Bruce Bransby.

Chris has been an active participant in some of the country’s most celebrated summer festivals. He attended the Aspen Music Festival and School in 2013, 2014, and 2017, receiving a Mentor Fellowship during his first summer. In 2015 he participated in the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, Colorado before joining the Oregon Symphony as an acting musician. He is also a finalist for New World Symphony and has performed with the orchestra in Miami, Florida.

In addition to his work in arts administration at Portland Opera, Chris maintains an active freelance career performing with the Oregon Symphony, Oregon Ballet Theatre, and numerous arts organizations throughout the Portland region. He performs on a 2011 double bass by Guy Cole, a modern luthier working out of Avalon Studio in Arlington, Texas.

When away from music, Chris enjoys hiking, camping, nature photography, and time with his family.
